Step 1:
- Plugin your mouse and keyboard to the Xbox One
- Plug one end of a USB cable into the keyboard/mouse
- Plug the USB cable into your Xbox One console.
Note: You may need to insert the USB into one of the slots on your Xbox One closer to you than others, as some keyboards/mice will not fit if inserted directly into one of the back two ports.
Step 2:
Configure the Keyboard and Mouse for Use on your Console
Make sure that you do not have any other USB devices plugged into your Xbox One console in addition to your keyboard/mouse. If you see a notification asking if the newly connected keyboard or mouse should be the default device, click no.
Turn on your console and log in.
Navigate to the "Settings" tab on the home screen using your controller. Scroll down to Devices. Click Keyboard/Mouse. Click Enable Keyboard & Mouse.
That's it! Now your keyboard and mouse are being used by your Xbox One instead of your controller. The quick way to test this is to open the Xbox One Guide and test out typing messages. You can even open up an app that is controller-supported, such as Emby Media Center, and use only your keyboard/mouse!

It's not possible to use a wireless keyboard/mouse with this configuration. If you prefer, you can plug in your keyboard and mouse directly into one of the USB slots on the back of the Xbox One console, though doing so will disable any other devices plugged into those ports. On the other hand, if you prefer a wired setup for your mouse and keyboard on Xbox One, you can plug them into one of the USB slots on the front of the console.
